Online Writing Summer Camps
One of the hardest parts of this quarantine for my teenagers is the loss of their summer camps. When Young Authors Academy (Utah Valley University) and Write On! (Westminster University) approached me about running their writing camps ONLINE this summer, I said, "Let's do it!"
Both camps will incorporate curriculum developed for my newly released non-fiction, Teen Writer's Guide: Your Road Map to Writing.
EVERY TEEN THAT ATTENDS WILL BE PROVIDED ONE OF MY BOOKS!*
Classes will be taught via zoom in large sessions, as well as in more personal, small-group sessions. We will also be using document sharing in Google Drive.
I ONLY TAKE A LIMITED NUMBER OF TEENS TO KEEP THE EXPERIENCE PERSONAL.
The #1 goal of these camps is to provide a creative outlet that encourages teens to WRITE! I will help them develop their story idea, flesh out characters, setting, and plot. We'll learn about writing strong dialogue and improve the pacing of their stories. We'll discuss managing writer's block and developing effective habits. We'll even spend a little time discussing the pros and cons of traditional and indie publishing.
I love these camps because of the positive friendships these teens make with their peers. These friendships create a valuable network that tends to keep teen writers motivated long after the camp.
